Sherman Heights Bakery
Sherman Heights bakery has been making bread, cakes, cookies, and pastries in Hamden since 1998. The shop is located on Sherman avenue in the middle of an industrial neighborhood. Even though the shop is just 20 years old, it seems to have roots much deeper than that. The cases are full of old school pastries and cookies.
My son (2 years old at the time) was overjoyed by being there. The sesame street cupcakes and the colorful sugar cookies had him pumped. He kept thumping his head on the glass cases trying to get as close as possible. The person behind the counter was pleasant and helpful. We chatted about the cookies and some other things that made my experience memorable.
They bake a number of breads and the bagels looked great, I will definitely be returning for bagels in the future. The Italian bread looked great too. I left with a few different cookies, and my kids and I loved them. I picked up some sugar cookies with colored granulated sugar on top , a butter cookie with sprinkles, and a lindzer tart cookie that is begging to be eaten with a fruited sour.
The location of this bakery makes it perfect for our first combination stop. It is only a mile or so down the street from Counterweight brewing in Hamden. I am going to have to stop here and pick up some cookies for our next visit to counter weight. If you haven’t ventured into this small not so trafficked bakery, make a trip, they are doing something special here.
I'm just waiting for the perfect counterweight beer to pair with those linzer tarts cookies.
