Nod Hill is in Ridgefield Connecticut, but inside it might be a villa in Europe. The design of the taproom creates an atmosphere of being in someone’s home. A really cool person who has good aesthetic taste and good taste in beer. From the parking lot, Nod Hill looks like most other industrial box breweries but it is much different than most.

We came out for the music and stayed for the beer. We both got a flight so we can try everything on the list. We parked in a small side room and had a quiet spot to sip and chat about the beer and the best cookies for them. Another thing that was great about Nod Hill was the crowd. The place was full of cool folks, we chatted up our neighbors and enjoyed the company while exploring the brews they had to offer.

The winners of the tasting were the Arvo Double IPA and the Contrapasso Russian Imperial Stout. We noticed that lots of people in the tap room were sipping glasses of arvo. You could tell because of the thick foamy head. Arvo has tons of citrus juice notes, and their house yeast provides something a little different from other IPAs. The stout was of a certain quality that you don’t often experience. It was creamy chocolatey and delicious.

Another nice part of Nod hill was the brew room is open to walk through and see their setup and walk among the fermenters.

I had the opportunity to meet Dave, one of the owners, he was a laid back guy with lots of beer knowledge. We quickly chatted about the place and Painted cookie, the other stop we made that night. (check out our post about them here) He helped me decide which cans to take home. We left with a four pack of Super Mantis. I am definitely hoping to have a few repeat returns to this place. We stopped at great Thai place on the way home that exceeded my expectations as well. So many wins this night.
