Waypoint Spirits
One of the great pleasures is to find a new spot - a restaurant, bar, club, farmer's market, or - in this case - a distillery. Waypoint Spirits is a distillery where everyone is friendly and has something really good to offer. Even better if it all comes unexpectedly. I had such an experience this past weekend after looking for an afternoon outing with my wife to celebrate a late Valentine's day, finding an unassuming distillery near my parent's house.
Waypoint spirits has been around for a little over 3 years, though they had not come across my radar. From their website "For one brief moment we were present in the now – the golden glow of the sunset, the sound of waves rolling up on the shore, the light breeze, and the pure contentment of just being". That is a feeling that resonates deeply with me and they are certainly doing their best to translate it to their business.
After trying their wide array of offerings, there are a lot of true gems to be had - the most interesting being their "Spicy XIII" vodka, almost genetically engineered for the perfect Bloody Mary. This is their top flight vodka mixed with 13 ingredients like garlic, horseradish and sriracha. It smells amazing, especially if you are into savory things, coming off more like a steak marinade than I would have expected. Mixed 1:2 with tomato juice, it was absolutely delicious.
Another best was the Honey Habanero whiskey. Perfectly spicy and sweet, I found it to be very sippable but would do great in a margarita or many other cocktails.
The beverages were great and it has been a long time since I have had a drink with such friendly and engaging people. This place may not be a brewery, but it is definitely worth a visit!
