Lemon Drop cookie and Two Roads No Limits Hefeweizen

Lemon Drop cookie and Two Roads No Limits Hefeweizen

The Beer: Hands down, my favorite beer of the moment. The hefeweizen is the safe harbor for many people dipping a toe into the craft beer arena and for good reason. The beer is light and crisp with a soft mouthfeel. It can be counted on for low bitterness and not much booze, and leave you feeling refreshed and the beginning of a good evening with a 5-6% abv. The aroma is citrusy with other fruit undertones, and there is a good amount of carbonation giving it an effervescent character.

The Cookie: Lemon desserts are a top favorite - always light enough to have at the end of any meal and go well with many things. These were quite large cookies with a biscuit texture and a thin, hard glaze. The lemon flavor was subtle but very present and backed up by the cumulative sweetness of the cookie and the icing. A bit crumbly, but it worked very well as a crunchy cookie.

The Pairing: We had the fortune of 2 flights of different beers to sample and this was head and shoulders above the rest. The flavor and sweetness of the cookie was delicate, so it needed a mild beer to not be overpowered. No Limits is citrusy and has a wheat undertone that fit right on top of the notes of the cookie, with each reinforcing the other. No other way to say it - one of the best pairings we have stumbled across. Surprisingly, even though the cookie seemed like it would lend itself well to dunking, we found that either the crumbliness or lack of absorption created problems. Bite and sip is the way to go.
