Counter Weight Franconian Kellerbier and Meriano’s Milano Coconut Cookie
The Beer: The franconian kellerbier from counterweight is light and tasty. Lots of fruit and a low ABV makes this beer crushable and yummy. My wife said after her first sip, “this is very…. beer.” I think she said this because she was experiencing a lager after the many ales we have had from CT brewery’s. It smells hoppy but isn’t overwhelming. It’s a little bitter with some mild malts, a well rounded lager. Who doesn’t love German style beers?
The Cookie: This cookie was purchased from Merianna’s Bakery and Cannoli truck. They make a variety of yummy Italian baked goods and these are no exception to the yummy category. These are called a Milano cookie, “a thin wafer cookie with chocolate and coconut.”
Although the name Milano is trademarked by Pepperidge farms (we won’t tell if you don’t) these are more like a Naples cookie another Pepperidge farms cookie. Whatever the similarities are, who cares, they are delicious! The chocolate is a little dark, so it has just a little sweetness, and the coconut is perfect. The cookies are thin and crisp. They are incredible little things, if left to my own devices I could easily consume a whole container by myself.
The Pairing: This combo was spot on. The cookie has a strong taste profile and paired with the bready notes of the lager this pairing was delicious. I think a dark chocolate coated cookie is a great option for many styles of beer. The cookies' crisp body was washed down well with bright German brew. The dark chcocolate kind of lingers in your mouth too, which made the bite and sip escpecially good.
