Counter Weight Void Coconut Stout and ABC Explosive Espresso Chip
The Beer: We have paired other varieties of Cointerweight’s void stout, the regular stout (there is nothing regular about it) as well as the coffee version. This coconut variety is a little different than the others but it is still roasty and coffee flavors are living large, but this variety has this subtle coconut finish that is very pleasant. I wish it was a bit more present but it lingers nicely on the palate.
The Cookie: Vegan anything seems like it might as well be labeled tasteless. Eggs, milk, and butter are all off limits if the word vegan is out there, but the Alternative Baking Company cookies break the mold. These vegan cookies are soft and full of flavor. The base cookie has a lot of coffee and the chocolate chips sweeten things up nicely.
The Pairing: The chocolate and coffee of the cookie punch up the coffee notes of the beer. While to coconut subtlety is a little lost with the cookie, I’m not that mad about it because the bigger notes of the beer and cookie work so well together. These alternative baking company cookies are a big win.
