Duvig’s American Lager and Cathy The art teacher’s Honeybee Cookies

Duvig’s American Lager and Cathy The art teacher’s Honeybee Cookies

I am so glad this beer style exists and some craft breweres take it seriously. Lagers that are light and crisp and easy to drink don’t have to also suck terribly. Just go to Duvig to find out what I mean.

The Beer: Light crisp refreshing lager. Super clear, I would like to say it is like a domestic lager, but in only good ways. It’s not watery and simple. It has a mild malt note and just the faintest hop characteristic that makes this beer an awesome lawn mower beer, as in a refreshing beverage for right after mowing the lawn. I also think that it is the kind of beer that can really open someone up to enjoying craft beer. Its mild and accessible not mega bitter or super boozy but it is delicious and well balanced. A winner for sure.

The Cookie: Cathy is an art teacher and a really nice lady. She knows that I am a beekeeper so for a picnic she baked some honey bee cookies with the thought that they would be a good beerable cookie. She was right. They are slightly sweet and soft, they have a little bit of cinnamon that gives them an interesting profile but nothing overwhelming. A really great cookie to wash down with a beer on a hot summer afternoon. Here is a link to not exactly her recipe, but something pretty close.

The Pairing: The more times I eat cookies and drink beer, the more I think the pairing lives and dies with the cookie. I mean I love beer, and I love all kinds of beer so I am very rarely unhappy with a pint. I’m a firm believer in the idea that the best beer is the one in your glass. Anyway, this pairing works really well because the beer is ready to be paired with just about anything and the cookies are so tasty and simple and sweet they are just like an eager ball boy at the US open.
