Four Flours

On a busy block west of the New Haven green sits a little gem of a bakery waiting to be enjoyed. Four Flours is an all natural bakery with a ton of delicious options.

The door welcomes you with a quote saying, “a bite of happiness.” This is an apt saying because the small store front is loaded with bright colors, delicious looking baked goods, and smiling customers. When I visited, there were two customers sitting at the counter along the window enjoying lunch from a menu that includes all kinds of food like sandwiches, wraps, and salads. They sounded good but I’m a focused consumer and had a mission. I was there for the cookies and they had some great options.

There were some old standards, sugar cookie, chocolate chip and such, but the ginger spice, coconut chip, toffee coffee cookies all looked unique and hand crafted beauties. I left with some cookies with a few beer pairings in mind. I also got a few sugar cookies coated in colored sugar crystals. Which my kids crushed as soon as I gave them the opportunity.

I will say if it wasn’t a frigid March afternoon I would have been really tempted to get a cookie ice cream sandwich. They have a variety of flavors that all looked excellent. Once it warms up I will be back.

Also, they had lots of both gluten free and vegan choices. They had a bunch of different breads and other baked goods. I got a lemon sugar cookie that was vegan and it was outstanding. If you’re gluten free this could be a great spot for you. I was kind of blown away by the sheer variety of choices here. They had granola, cupcakes, croissants, breads, muffins, and too many other things to list.

If any of this sounds good to you, you should check out this little shop in New Haven and grab a “bite of happiness.”
