Fox Farm Brewing
New England farms have a mystique to them. Old stone walls, red barns that have been around longer than the men working in them, they can be magical places. Especially when they are growing ingredients that end up in a beer brewed right on the farm. Out in Salem there is such a farm, Fox Farm.
Fox Farm has an awesome thing going on in their tap room. I stopped on a Friday afternoon and there were lots of people sipping beer and laughing. The place is clean and new but rustic and beautiful inside. The beer is some of the best I’ve had. I tried some Marzen on tap, also I tried some of their Grizette. Both were superb. I honestly think that Fox Farm is one of the best breweries in Connecticut. It is definitely in the top 5. It is far above average.
I love the tap handles are all old hand tool handles, Shovels, rakes, who knows what well worn well used tool handle is getting pulled to fill up your pint.
I think the crowd was super interesting, obviously a lot foregulars. Also, quite a few people coming in just to get cans and growlers to go. I found myself stopping at the brewery by myself so I chatted up the bartender a bit and he was friendly and knowledgeable. THe barn used be the home to dairy cows but now has a new life as the taproom and brewery.
I wish I lived closer to this place, because I would be here all the time. I am already planning a trip back to enjoy more beer and share this place with friends.
