Hoax Brewing BlackBerry Slight Of Hand and Aunt Kyle’s Mini Blueberry Pie

The Beer: The slight of hand series is a slightly tart berliner weisse. Hoax has been releasing a series of fruited berliner weisse style beers and they have all been really good. Just a little tart sour note, with some yummy fruit flavor. I feel like this style of beer is almost wine like in the way that the tart and fruit notes play together. The low ABV gives us an opportunity to drink a lot of this too, which is never bad.

The Cookie:  Alright, this isn’t a cookie. It is about the size of a cookie though! We have done a mini pie pairing once before, if you remember the chocolate lemon flowers, so the precedent has already been set. My Aunt Kyle is a very good cook, parties at her place she always brings out something new and fresh. So this summer when she showed up with mini blueberry pies, I wasn’t upset.

For real though, I think fruit pies are awesome and when they are handheld and bite size I’m into them more. The fruit inside to crust ratio is just right with the small bite sized pie.

The Pairing: I’m thinking we need to start a new blog called “CT Beer and Pies.” I have really been digging pies lately. The crumbly crispy crust provide a nice something sweet and kind of bready to hold up to the beer. The fruit compote inside is sweet and loaded with berry flavor that partners really well with the tart finish and Blackberry notes from the beer. After having this pairing, I’m getting excited for thanksgiving. More beer and pie pairings to come.
