Hanging Hills Metrix Lime Lager and Lime Coconut Moon Rock
Cinco de Mayo is an occasion that everyone loves and it is the perfect way to kick off the warm months. Light Mexican beer, margaritas, lime, sit outside, eat nachos, tacos, guacamole. I’ve always look forward to this starting in the deep winter. This was on our minds when we took a visit to Hanging Hills back in February. Among the many delicious brews we sampled, we tasted this and immediately squirreled some away for the appropriate holiday. The only thing we needed was the right cookie to go with it, which came from Moon Rocks in a super tropical lime-coconut cookie.
The Beer: I think that the on paper I shouldn’t like this beer. I think that bud light lime is a bit of an abomination and is one of the worst beers on this planet. For intents and purposes I should not like this beer. That said, it was one of my favorite beers on the flight I tried when I visited the taproom. I left with a four pack and I have enjoyed each one at different times with different
The Cookie: One of the things about Moon Rock cookies is they have robust and real flavors and this cookie is no different. It has a mega lime note and a more subtle but complimentary coconut that is very tasty. It’s quite sweet and almost has a character like a lime sorbet.
The Pairing: The citrus cookie and the citrus beer are wonderful together. In the past, our fruit beer/fruit cookie combinations have not gone very well - two similar flavors, like wearing different shades of green, mostly end up clashing. I think the trick here is the subtle acidity of the lime in the beer, with the big punch on lime in the cookie are different enough and the coconut smooths everything over.
