Stony Creek No Egrets Imperial Stout and Chocolate Shot Cookie

Stony Creek No Egrets Imperial Stout and Chocolate Shot Cookie

The Beer: This is a big boozy dark stout. Stony Creek has this on tap, but they also sell it in bottles. This stout is bready and strong, though not too heavy finishing. It finishes lighter than it looks and I had imagined, leaving plenty of desire for another sip. A wonderful Imperial stout for soaking up with your favorite cookie.

The Cookie: This cookie holds a special place in my heart. I have been eating chocolate shot cookies on Christmas for as long as I can remember Christmas. They are our go to ‘leave out for Santa’ cookie and one of the few things my father’s mother ever made in the kitchen, she wasn’t much of a cook.

This is a basic butter cookie with oatmeal rolled into a log, covered in chocolate shots, and then sliced and baked. They crisp up really well, their density is just right. The chocolate shots are subtle, not too much but you know they are there. These guys make wonderful absorbent vessels for dipping into your favorite cold beer.

The Pairing: I liked dipping this cookie into this beer because the cookie is a very pale white color and the beer is so dark you could see the beer in the cookie. The boozy big roasty barrel aged notes married well with the simple light oat and chocolate of the cookie.
