Thomas Hooker Brewing Chocolate Truffle Stout and Peanut Butter Buster Cookie

The Beer: Thomas Hooker's Chocolate Truffle Stout reminds me of an egg cream or chocolate soda. A beer not too heavy in the malts with mild sweetness and a well rounded chocolate flavor that is very pronounced. Thomas Hooker uses another great Connecticut company - Munson’s Chocolate - to make this stout an extra special nutmeg state brew.

The Cookie: This cookie is from one of those school fundraisers that sells frozen cookie dough. Sometimes these are terrible, but baking warm cookies with minimum effort is always a win and this particular brand and flavor was very good. It is a peanut butter cookie with peanut butter chips and small chunks of peanut butter cups. We ate them right out of the oven so they were still a bit warm. The crunch to softness ratio was just right and the amount of chocolate inside the cookie was great.

The Pairing: A big success on this pairing. The slightly bitter chocolateness in the beer was a well matched pair with the chocolate in the cookie and as well as the peanut butter in the cookie. Peanut butter and chocolate are old school partners for good reason. At first it seemed like I was going to not be into dunking this cookie, but dunking really bumped this up a notch. These little cookies had a crisp, porous ring of baked cookie that was very absorbent and the beer soaking into the peanut butter cookie was exceptional.
